INTRODUCTION

WHAT IS A BLOG??

A blog is a frequently updated online personal journal or diary. It is a place to express yourself to the world. A place to share your thoughts and your passions. Really, it’s anything you want it to be. For our purposes we’ll say that a blog is your own website that you are going to update on an ongoing basis. Blog is a short form for the word weblog and the two words are used interchangeably. As so often happens in the English language, many derivatives of the word blog have been created. One who participates in the activities of maintaining a blog is known as a blogger and the activity of keeping a blog is known as blogging. Originally blogs were known primarily as places for people to write about their day-to-day activities. Their mundane, everyday tasks became fodder for journal entries. Somehow these writers gained a following and the hobby of blogging was born. Initially, blogging involved a personal web log, in which a person would journal about their day. From "web log" came the term "blog." People maintained blogs long before the term was coined, but the trend gained momentum with the introduction of automated published systems.

TYPES OF BLOG

The different types of blogs are as follows:

1. Personal Blogs: These were people who wanted to take their daily journal online to share their experiences, feelings, and innermost thoughts with an audience. For the personal blogger, there were no rules to follow or themes to adhere. Their blogs were the open pages of their diaries, entered through a word processor and published on simple HTML pages.

2. Business Blogs: Business bloggers are those who blog for their business. That could be a business they own or company they work for. The business blogger’s goal is to gain more exposure, traffic, and ultimately customers for their business.

3. Professional Blogs: Professional bloggers are those who blog to make money online. In other words, their career goal is to earn a salary through their blogging efforts. Professional bloggers tend to use a variety of monetization strategies to achieve this goal, including selling display ads, creating information and digital products, promoting other people’s products for a commission, and similar.

4. Niche blogs: Instead of merely focusing on broad topics, niche blogs are very specific! Some of the niche blog ideas might be dessert recipes, red wine addicts, training programs with your own weight, poems writing, as well as French bulldog lovers. With niche blog, you can focus more on a particular topic thus making research rather easy. It’s easier to identify strengths and weaknesses of that niche and write about things you know the best. You can also use that blog and change your passion into a small personal business.

5. Reverse blogs: Reverse or guest host blogs are a unique but modern type of blog. Instead of the owner creating content, the content is supplied by the public. A reverse blog has a team who moderate posts, prevents unpleasant interactions and promotes slow topics for greater interactivity. Despite the fact that the guest host blog mostly contains content from guest writers, the owner should also write posts of his or her own.

6. Affiliate Blogs: Affiliate bloggers are those that blog to generate affiliate marketing commissions. Instead of creating their own products, they write blog posts that review products by others. The goal is to encourage visitors to purchase those products using the blogger’s affiliate link, allowing the blogger to earn a commission as specified by the product creator.

7. Media Blogs: Media blogs are defined by the content they produce. If you enjoy video blogging, then you’re a vlogger. If you curate content from other websites, you have a link log. If you post photos or art sketches on your blog, you’re hosting a photo blog or art blog

8. Freelance Blogs: Freelance bloggers are those who are paid for providing services, for example writing content for other businesses. If you are looking for a way to get paid for writing as a service and have experience in blogging, freelance blogging is the way to go. Freelance bloggers cover topics provided by their clients.

9. Edu Blogs: An edublog is a blog created for educational purposes. Edublogs archive and support student and teacher learning by facilitating reflection, questioning by self and others, collaboration and by providing contexts for engaging in higher-order thinking. Edublogs proliferated when blogging architecture became more simplified and teachers perceived the instructional potential of blogs as an online resource.

An edublog is a blog created for educational purposes. Edublogs archive and support student and teacher learning by facilitating reflection, questioning by self and others, collaboration and by providing contexts for engaging in higher-order thinking. Edublogs proliferated when blogging architecture became more simplified and teachers perceived the instructional potential of blogs as an online resource. The use of blogs has become popular in education institutions including public schools and colleges. Blogs can be useful tools for sharing information and tips among co-workers, providing information for students, or keeping in contact with parents. Common examples include blogs written by or for teachers, blogs maintained for the purpose of classroom instruction, or blogs written about educational policy. Educators who blog are sometimes called edubloggers.

How can Teachers and Students use Blogs??

• Teachers can use blogs to publish assignments, resources, and keep students and even parents up to date on class events, due dates, and content being covered.
• Teachers can also use blogs to help students’ master content and improve their writing skills.
• Students can use blogs to publish their writing and educate others on a particular topic.
• Students can also create blogs for the chess club or the yearbook club, the football team or the upcoming prom.

HOW TO CREATE A BLOG??

1. Sign in to Blogger
2. In the top left, click the Down arrow .
3. Click new blog.
4. Enter a name for your blog.
5. Choose a blog address, or URL.
6. Choose a template.
7. Click Create blog.

 

 

 

HOW TO UPLOAD A FILE IN BLOG?

·        From Your Computer

The following process describes uploading a document from your computer to your blog’s Media Library and inserting a download link into a post or page.

1. Go to Blog Posts → Add or Pages → Add.
2. Click on the Add Media icon found directly above your editor.
3. Simply drag and drop your files into the box that appears, or click Add New to choose a file from your computer to upload.
4. Once the file has finished uploading, click the Insert button.
5. You should now have a working download link to the file in your new post or page.

·        From a URL

The following process describes inserting a download link to a file which already exists on another web site. This method will not upload the document/file to your blog’s Media Library; as such, if the file is removed from its location, your link will appear broken. This is not recommended unless you know the file will always be available at the specified location.

1. Go to Blog Posts → Add or Pages → Add.
2. Click on the Add Media icon found directly above your editor.
3. Click on the Add via URL button.
4. Enter the URL and click Upload.
5. Click the Insert button.
6. You should now have a working download link to the file in your new post or page.

·        From the WP Admin Media Library

The following process describes inserting a download link to a file which already exists in your Media Library.

1. In the WP Admin dashboard, go to Posts → Add New or Pages → Add New.
2. Click on the Add Media icon found directly above your editor.
3. Click on the Media Library tab.
4. Locate the file you wish to add and click on it once.
5. Select the Media File option under Attachment Display Settings (the type of link you choose will be saved for next time)
6. Click the Insert into post button.
7. You should now have a working download link to the file in your new post or page.

REFLECTION

 

Even though I have been familiar with the term Blog, I have never tried making a blog. This was my first experience of making a blog. It was confusing at the same time a new experience to learn a new technique. My friends really helped me in understanding as well as completing my blog. After several attempts I was able to do it on my own. Now I am clear about the steps and also about the blog. I will try to create a new blog of my own other than this practical work and also help all those who need help with the blog.
